I love this video!
Click the link. And be sure your volume is turned up. And yeah, it's SFW... unless all of your co-workers are Republicans. Then it's probably not safe at all.
"Somebody Help Me" By Full Blown Rose
I'm being haunted by a whisper
A chill comes over me
I've been trapped inside this moment
I'm not a victim, I'm not a freak
Free me
before I slip away
Heal me
wake me from this day
Can somebody help me?
I've seen the face of my affliction
of my reality
I'm being tortured by the future
of things that are yet to be
I'm being haunted by a vision
it's like the morning never comes
I feel the burden of confusion
always searching... on the run
Now, I'm not a hero... no
but the weight of the world's is on my soul
these imagines burn my eyes
they're burning me up inside
Video time! This was sent to me via email and it's absolutely one of the funniest videos I've ever seen. Words cannot explain it; either you get the humor or you don't. My parents, if they still read this blog, probably will not get it. But anybody that's played a video game, particularly one where players engage each other in simulated concept should be familiar with the subject matter.
Also, I should perhaps issue a warning that naughty language appears throughout this video offering. You may want to, I don't know, put some headphones on or something.

It's a kitten playing in a bathtub. You know you can't resist something as cute as that..

This may be the most important news you'll read all week.
I'm so excited. Sufficient to say, I'm one of those people that hated the fact that Star Wars Galaxies took place during the original trilogy. The original trilogy really just doesn't allow a lot of room for video games to explore: you only see a couple of planets and all the Jedi are dead. And really, how many times can we play the Hoth level? We've been there, fought that. Give us something new.
This, however... this is what I've wanted since the moment I started playing Knights of the Old Republic. KOTOR, to me, is the definitive Star Wars experience... and that includes both movies and video games. It's simply the most well written, detailed, engaging and interesting chapter in the Star Wars saga, and it's the perfect backdrop for an MMO, because it's concrete enough to anchor a game (you've got major characters like Revan, Bastila and Carth to guide the storyline) but it's open enough so that there's room for your character to grow. I mean, let's face it... in the SWG MMO, no matter how badass you were, you weren't really that much of a badass, because if you were, then your character would have been integral to the story, but since the story is already defined by the movies, and you didn't appear in those. It's claustrophobic, you see?
And Bioware, man. Bioware's the team to do it. Even with all this gloom surrounding the EA purchase, I still believe in that team and I believe in that franchise. I absolutely cannot wait for this game to come out.

I've always had these awesome ideas for different little music videos to some of my favorite songs. I'm sure a lot of people have these ideas, but for me, it's always gone deeper than just "wouldn't that be cool if I could..." I mean, I've got this stuff planned out, scene for scene, frame for frame in my mind. The only problem is that I don't know any actors. I don't own a camera or any editing equipment. I'm a Creative Writing major, not a cinema arts or whatever the damn field is called. So I'm really not qualified to do anything with those silly little dreams, other than to keep dreaming them.
But you know, if there's one thing the Internet has shown us, numerous times, it's something that makes you sit back and say, "you know, I could make something like that." Hell, this blog is a perfect example of that sort of thinking. The fact that nobody really reads this blog, well... hey, don't spoil the dream for me. I like to play pretend that I have an audience of readers and that you all care. Where was I? Oh, yes, talking about making videos.
Well, I was browsing through my archives tonight, watching some of the videos I've linked here (that's the real reason I link all that stuff, you know. It's not to share with you things I really enjoy, but to serve as a sort of Internet time capsule for myself to enjoy later on. Okay, that's not true, but it sounds plausible.) In particular, I was looking at that fan-made music video for the Lord of the Rings that I linked, the one with the Requiem for a Tower soundtrack. No, I'm not going to link it. You can dig it up if you really care about watching it now, I think it's on the second page or something. So, I'm watching this video and thinking, you know... what would I do with this? And then I had a neat little idea, a few really awesome scenes that I'd rip out and edit together to put to some music. And it seemed like a fun idea, but one that I'd never really work on, since I don't want to just, you know, go out and buy software for no reason. I'm sort of broke right now.
Then I remembered that I've got something called Windows Movie Maker on my computer. I know I didn't buy any Movie Makers, so it must be something that came with Windows, right? Which means it probably isn't very good. Why bother using it? Well, I'm alone, I'm not drinking, and I don't have class tomorrow, so I decided to take a look anyway and see what little thingies I could do with it.
I won't lie to you and say that I magically created art from the thing. I didn't make anything, actually, mostly just played around with bits of audio and video. I don't know anything about digital editing software, as we established, but after playing with that little program, I think it has enough to make the kind of silly little fan video I have in mind, which makes me happy. And it means I can make my silly little fan video without spending 100 bucks or however much decent video editing software costs.
So, yes, that's my new project that I'm amusing myself with, even though I should be working on my presentation or my mid-term, both of which are due on Friday. Not sure when I'll be done with the thing, but I figure I'll be super original and post it to YouTube so I can show my mom, or something.
I've already got a title picked out. Requiem for a Wraith. Yes, it's going to be ripped from Lord of the Rings and yes, it will use the Requiem for a Tower soundtrack. I thought about doing something with Star Wars, and I still might, if I like this project enough to see it through to conclusion. But I decided to go with LotR, because it has something close to dragons. And I fucking love dragons.

Not a lot to talk about today. I don't know whether my inability to focus on my creative works is a result of overall laziness or if it might have something to do with the fact the college is crushing the creative juice out of me. I didn't think this was ever going to happen; I mean, I went to college so that I would write more, rather than sit around and play video games all day. But now, it seems like whenever I have even the remote interest to write, I'm usually sitting at my desk buried in so many procrastinated essays that by the time I'm done, it's so early in the morning it might not even be dark out. And that kind of frenzied, last minute writing really takes a number one one's mental health, not to mention makes the very act of sitting down to write something a painful torture.
On the other hand, I'm sitting here typing on this blog, whining about that unpleasant writing through, irony of ironies, more writing, so maybe I'm not so painfully afflicted as I like to imagine. Still, it'd be nice to have to write less bullshit essays and more, I don't know, poetry and fiction and whatever. You know, the creative things that a creative writing major actually does. Maybe I'm taking the wrong kinds of classes? I don't know.
I've noticed that my page view count seems to climb steadily, which makes me wonder if more people are reading this than I imagined. It's hard to tell, you know, it's not like I'm running a store where I can watch you come in and look around at the stuff, and then leave, a situation that leaves me secure in the knowledge that while you didn't buy anything, at least you stopped by and looked, which is really the only thing I ask for. Maybe people could start leaving comments or something? I guess that would represent actually purchasing merchandise at this imaginary store analogy, except that you wouldn't actually be spending money, so... yeah, I sort of lost my focus there. Let's move on.
What else do I usually do in this blog, aside from the whining? Ah yes, usually there's a link or two. Here's a good one: The Guild, a series of short videos about a group of people who play World of WarCraft waaaay too much. The sad part? I'm willing to bet that at least of quarter of the people I associate with (including myself) are or have been in this same situation: So it's Friday night, and...still jobless. Yay. Haven't left the house in a week. My therapist broke up with me. Oh yeah, there's a gnome warlock in my living room. Sleeping on my couch.
Why do we do this to ourselves?

You may have seen this. You may not. I'm linking this because I love Clint Mansell's soundtrack more than any other music in the world. Seriously.
In other words, this is not being linked for you, because you probably have already seen it. This link is for me to enjoy, because I love Lord of the Rings, and I love Requiem for a Dream, and the fact that a trailer was made THAT COMBINES THESE TWO LOVES is more awesome than anything in recent memory. Its awesome, in fact, is only exceeded by my irritation that it took me this long to find out about this.
If you haven't seen or heard this, I urge you to press play. You won't be disappointed.

When the inevitable zombie apocalypse occurs and unleashes a horde of slavering undead upon us, it will be important for each of us to be prepared so that we might survive such a catastrophe. In addition to stockpiling the usual supplies (guns, ammo, food, water, body armor), you'll want a comprehensive network of reliable allies; people with skills to help ensure your survival. Most of us will want allies with medical skills, survival training, athletic prowess, etc.
Not me. I want this guy. Because, let's be honest... well, take a look at the video and you'll see what I'm talking about. Pay extra close attention to the time. Also, notice that he never misses.

I wept tears of joy. This video. Is. Perfect.
You really won't get it unless you're me, or somebody that has played a video game with me. Specifically, World of WarCraft.
